About the General Social Survey

The General Social Survey (GSS) is a nationally representative survey of adults in the United States, conducted since 1972 by NORC at the University of Chicago.

The GSS monitors societal change and the growing complexity of American society. It is one of the most frequently analyzed sources of information in the social sciences.
